Biker Funeral Procession
by MSO
The motorcycle funeral procession was almost a mile long.
The Rebels are a vast and notorious biker gang present through large amounts of Australia but in 2009 they were briefly centred entirely on Canberra for a final life celebration. Richard “Rebel Rick” Roberts passed at the age of 57 and was honored with a kilometres-long funeral procession comprising of a large part of the gang.
Roberts was found shot dead along with another man in a Canberra suburb. As a drug dealer and enforcer in the gang, his position was never a safe one but his death was nonetheless seen as a tragedy for close family and friends, especially Rebels leader Alex Vella. Vella read a poem he wrote at the funeral in tribute.
