Sand and Water

by J-Stacknik

Sand and Water by Beth Nielsen Chapman was released by Warner Bros. in April of 1997.

All alone I didn’t like the feeling
All alone I sat and cried
All alone I had to find some meaning
In the center of the pain I felt inside

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave

All alone I heal this heart of sorrow
All alone I raise this child
Flesh and bone, he’s just
Bursting towards tomorrow
And his laughter fills my world and wears your smile

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come
Through the doors beyond the grave

All alone I came into this world
All alone I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water and a million years gone by

This song was written by Beth Nielsen Chapman, one of America’s finest undiscovered singer song writers, who has written for various artists such as Faith Hill, Willie Nelson and Bette Middler to name a few. In 1993 Nielsen Chapman’s life was turned upside down when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Three years after his death, she released the album Sand and Water. The title song took on a life of its own helping people who were dealing with loss and struggling with grief. The whole album is an emotionally rich collection detailing her process of loss, reconciliation, and healing. The song Sand and Water has become her biggest hit song to date, reaching #102 on billboard’s hot one hundred singles chart. Elton John added it to his play list of songs on his 1997 world tour in memory of Princess Diana.
