Daredevil Should Have Learned from Past Stunts

by MSO

The first person to tempt fate and survive was Annie Taylor, a 63 year old school teacher who went over the falls in a barrel in 1901. Her search for fame and fortune didn't pan out, she died penniless in 1921.

A daredevil from California died while driving a jet-ski over the edge of Niagara Falls.

Robert Overacker, a graduate of a California stunt school had planned for seven years to ride a jet-ski over the edge of the falls in order to raise awareness for the homeless. Overacker’s body was pulled from the water after his parachute had failed to open during the stunt.

Medical personnel tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the Greater Niagara General Hospital an hour after the stunt. Overacker had equipped himself with a life preserver and parachute with the intent of letting go of the jet-ski as it went over the edge and floating down to the water using his parachute.

Overacker was the fifth person to die in the falls since 1901.
